Sakura

Sakura

Sakura - Japanese name for ornamental cherry trees and their flowers. Sakura is a universally recognized and omnipresent symbol of Japan, placed on everyday items, including kimonos, stationery and tableware. The cherry blossom is often used as a metaphor for the elusive nature of life and appears in Japanese art. It is also associated with samurai and kamikaze. There are at least one popular Sakura folk song originally devoted to shakuhachi, as well as many pop songs. Sakura is also a popular female Japanese name. The most popular Japanese variety is Somei Yoshino. Its flowers are almost entirely white, slightly pale pink, especially close to the stem. Flowers grow and usually fall within a week before the leaves develop. Because of this, the trees seem almost completely white. The variety has its name from the village of Somei. It was established in the second half of the 19th century, at the turn of the Edo era and the Meiji era.
