Screening test

Badanie przesiewowe

Screening - in medicine a type of strategic study that is carried out among people without symptoms of the disease, to detect it and to treat it early, to prevent serious sequelae of the disease in the future. Screening is done in the whole population or only in the so-called. high risk groups. The aim of screening is to detect early stage disease and thus provide an early intervention that would reduce both the mortality and the suffering of patients in a given disease. Although screening may lead to a preliminary diagnosis, it must always be confirmed by other, more accurate tests that are specific to the disease and ordered by the physician. There are potential negative effects of screening such as: false diagnosis or even lack of diagnosis, as well as a false sense of security. For these reasons, tests used in screening programs must show good sensitivity, with acceptable specificity, especially for low-grade disease.
