Sefora

Sephora - a biblical figure from the Book of Exodus, the wife of Moses. She was one of the seven daughters of the Midian priest Jetra. After the Egyptian assassination, Moses fled to the country of the Madians, stopped at the well, to which they had just gone to drink the sheep of the daughter of Jetra. When other shepherds tried to drive them out, Moses stood in their defense. Jetro learned about the incident and invited Moses to his home. He lived with him and married Sepho, who gave him a son named Gershom. The Book of Exile also mentions their second descendant, Eliezer. After the manifestation of God to Moses Sephor, with her father's permission, she went with her husband and her children to Egypt. During the journey God tried to kill Moses, Sephora took a stone knife and cut off the foreskin of his son, touching her husband's feet and saying, "Bloody spouse is you for me." Then God departed from Moses. The significance of this scene is the subject of biblical fights, it is usually interpreted as the wrath of God, because Moses, despite the covenant with Abraham, did not circumcise his son.

Sefora – postać biblijna z Księgi Wyjścia, żona Mojżesza. Była jedną z siedmiu córek madianickiego kapłana Jetry. Po zabójstwie Egipcjanina Mojżesz uciekł do kraju Madianitów, zatrzymał się przy studni, do której właśnie udawały się napoić owce córki Jetry. Kiedy inni pasterze próbowali je przepędzić, Mojżesz stanął w ich obronie. Jetro dowiedział się o zajściu i zaprosił Mojżesza do swojego domu. Ten zamieszkał u niego i poślubił Seforę, która dała mu syna imieniem Gerszom. Księga Wyjścia wzmiankuje później również o ich drugim potomku, Eliezerze. Po objawieniu się Boga Mojżeszowi Sefora za zgodą ojca udała się wraz z mężem i synami do Egiptu. Gdy podczas podróży Bóg próbował zabić Mojżesza, Sefora wzięła kamienny nóż i obcięła napletek swojego syna, dotykając nim stóp męża i wypowiadając słowa «Oblubieńcem krwi jesteś ty dla mnie». Wówczas Bóg odstąpił od Mojżesza. Znaczenie tej sceny jest przedmiotem sporu biblistów, interpretuje się ją zazwyczaj jako gniew Boży spowodowany tym, że Mojżesz wbrew przymierzu zawartemu z Abrahamem nie obrzezał swojego syna.
