Skene

Skene

Skene - in Greek theaters originally wooden, then a stone building opposite the audience along the tangent line to the orchestron. The first skene was created in 465 BC. on the initiative of Ajschylos, who needed space for his actors to change costumes during the performance. It was a wooden barrack. It contained cloak rooms for actors, props magazines. In the 4th century BC. You can already see the theaters built of stone with stone skene. The theater of Dionysus in Athens became the model for other theaters. The front wall of the building began to be used as a backdrop for the spectacles, decorations were placed on it. The classic skene had three doors. According to the established convention, the middle - the largest - played the role of the door to the palace, out of it the inhabitants or extrusion of the ekkykle. The other doors also had a traditional meaning, they headed to the harbor or to the city. There were also other supporting devices for the spectacle, such as theologeion. Skene – w teatrach greckich początkowo drewniany, później kamienny budynek usytuowany naprzeciw widowni wzdłuż linii stycznej do orchestronu.
