Warmia
Warmia - historical land in the present Warmińsko-Mazurskie voivodship, one of the parts of the historical land of Prussia. The name Warmia comes from the Prussian Warmia tribe, but its territory does not coincide with the area inhabited by this tribe. The area of the historic land of Warmia corresponds exactly to the area of Warmia Duchy. This land, during the Teutonic Order, was dominated by the bishop with great autonomy, and after the Thirteen Years' War it became part of Poland, yet retained certain autonomy. Due to a separate history of Prussia, Warmia is not identical with Mazury and does not form part of it. From the north-west Warmia borders on Żuławy and is based on the Vistula Lagoon, on the west borders with Upper Prussia, from the south and from the east with Mazurskie and from the north with the Lower Prussia. The main cities of Warmia are: Braniewo, Frombork, Orneta, Pieniężno, Lidzbark Warmiński, Biskupiec, Dobre Miasto, Reszel, Olsztyn, Barczewo. The area of Warmia is 4249 km². The colors of Warmia are white and red.
