Areca

Areca is a genus of palm tree from Asia and East Africa with about 50 known species. The most important species is the Areca catechu or Betel palm, whose seed - the betel nut, Areca nut or pinang - is much consumed in these regions as a stimulant. In the taxonomic classification of Jussieu, Areca is the name of a botanical genus, order Palmae, class Monocotyledones with perigynous stamens. Areca é um género de palmeira da Ásia e África oriental com cerca de 50 espécies conhecidas. A espécie mais importante é a Areca catechu ou Palmeira de betel, cuja semente - a noz de betel, noz de Areca ou pinang - é muito consumida nessas regiões como estimulante. Na classificação taxonômica de Jussieu, Areca é o nome de um gênero botânico, ordem Palmae, classe Monocotyledones com estames perigínicos.
