Belfast

Belfast

Belfast or Belfast is a city in the UK. It is the largest city and capital of Northern Ireland and the province of Ulster, being the second largest city on the island of Ireland. While the population within the city limits is about 275,000, about 750,000 people live in Greater Belfast area. It is located near the mouth of the river Lagan. It is flanked by stretches of mountain on both sides. The name Belfast originates in the Irish Béal Feirste, or 'mouth of the Farset', the name of the river where the city stood. The river Farset was taken by the river Lagan, because this is a more important river. The Farset is now channeled under High Street. Bridge Street indicates where a bridge on the Farset River formerly existed. Belfast witnessed the worst of the conflicts in Northern Ireland. The Friday Passion Agreement encouraged large-scale reconstruction of the city, such as Victoria Square, the Titanic Quarter and Laganside including the new Odyssey complex and the Waterfront Hall landmark. A large part of the city center is now only pedestrianized. Queen's University of Belfast is Belfast's premier university. Queen's University of Belfast é a principal universidade de Belfast.
