Coagulase

Coagulase is an adhesin produced by Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus intermedius. In the laboratory it is used to distinguish different isolates of Staphylococcus. Negativity in the coagulase test excludes the presence of S. aureus. Coagulase is not an enzyme, despite the termination of its name. Reacts with prothrombin in blood. The test is performed with plasma and the result is positive if after 24h at 37ºC the coagulant plasma. A coagulase é uma adesina produzida por Staphylococcus aureus e Staphylococcus intermedius. No laboratório é usada para distinguir diferentes isolados de Staphylococcus. A negatividade no teste da coagulase exclui a presença de S. aureus. A coagulase não é uma enzima, apesar da terminação do seu nome. Reage com a protrombina no sangue. O teste é realizado com plasma e o resultado apresenta-se positivo se após 24h a 37ºC o plasma coagular.
