Cremaster muscle

Músculo cremaster

The cremaster muscle inserts into the scrotum and acts by suspending the testicle. It consists of continuous muscle fibers to the internal oblique muscle of the abdomen. The function of the cremaster muscle is related to the maintenance of the temperature of the testicles. In humans, if the testicles are submitted to the average internal body temperature of about 36.5 ° C, spermatozoa production may decrease or cease. However, exposure of the testicles and scrotum to low temperatures can hinder blood supply. The cremaster muscle works by contracting to bring the testicles closer to the torso, to warm them, or by relaxing and pushing away the testicles to cool them. This mechanism of contraction and relaxation causes a visible movement of the testicles and occurs involuntarily. When the base of the thigh of a resting individual is stimulated, on its medial or internal face, the cremaster contracts. This phenomenon is called cremestre reflex.
