Cutina

Cutin is a macromolecule, the main component of the cuticle of terrestrial plants. It is a polymer composed of many long chain fatty acids, which are linked together by ester bonds, creating a rigid three-dimensional network. Cutin is made up of 16: 0 and 18: 1 fatty acids. The chain may have hydroxyl or epoxide groups, either internally or opposite the carboxyl group. Cutin is formed and secreted by epidermal cells. A cutina é uma macromolécula, componente principal da cutícula das plantas terrestres. É um polímero formado por muitos ácidos gordos de cadeia longa, que estão unidos uns aos outros por ligações éster, criando uma rede rígida tridimensional. A cutina é formada por ácidos gordos 16:0 e 18:1. A cadeia pode ter grupos hidroxilo ou epóxido, interiormente ou no extremo oposto ao grupo carboxilo. A cutina é formada e segregada pelas células da epiderme.
