WHAT DOES DRACUNCULOSE MEAN IN PORTUGUESE?

Dracunculiasis

Dracunculiasis or dracunculiasis, better known as guinea worm infection, is an infectious parasitic disease caused by a nematode of the genus Dracunculus, which affects the connective tissue of man. Symptoms include in addition to fever, nausea and vomiting, intense itchy skin and blisters that then turn into painful ulcerous wounds. Extraction of the worm. The disease sets in after the individual ingests stagnant water, in which there are copepods infested by worm larvae. Larvae released within the organism migrate through the walls of the intestines and develop into adult worms. Approximately one year later, females move through the subcutaneous tissue, causing a painful burning sensation; an edema, a blister, and finally an ulcer, usually on the feet, accompanied by fever, nausea, and vomiting. In contact with water, the females discharge larvae, feeding back the life cycle. There are no drugs to fight dracunculiasis. However, the disease can be prevented through appropriate treatment of water to be consumed by the population.
