Escherichia

Escherichia

Escherichia Escherichia is a genus of gram-negative, non-spore-forming, facultative anaerobic bacilli from the family Enterobacteriaceae. It inhabits the gastrointestinal tract of warm-blooded animals, except for the E. blattae species, isolated from the intestines of cockroaches. As belonging to the 4th group of Bergey, these bacteria are small, and can be immobile or mobile with perimeter flogging. They ferment sugars, releasing acids and gases and reduce nitrates. They are the main causal agents of urinary infections, nosocomial, namely meningitis and septicemia. Some of them may be associated with injuries as opportunistic agents. They present an enormous diversity of species. References ▪ SCHEUTZ, F .; STROCKBINE, N.A. Genus I. Escherichia castellani and Chalmers 1919. In: GARRITY, G.M. Bergey's Manual of Systematic Bacteriology - The Proteobacteria Part B. 2 ed. Referências ▪ SCHEUTZ, F.; STROCKBINE, N.A. Genus I. Escherichia castellani and Chalmers 1919. In: GARRITY, G.M..
