Hematuria

Hematúria

Hematuria is the presence of blood in the urine. The most accurate definition is the presence of five or more erythrocytes per field in the microscopic analysis of the urine sediment, and must be confirmed in at least two urine samples. It is a sign of various diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract, and can be benign to lethal. It is one of the most frequent findings in urinalysis of children. Occasionally "hemoglobinuria" is used as a synonym, although this term refers more precisely to hemoglobin in the urine.
