Amphisbaena

Anfisbena

Trogonophidae Bipedidae Amphisbaena or amphisbaenia is the generic name of scaled reptiles popularly called, in Brazil, a snake-snake or two-headed snake, because its tail is rounded in more or less the same shape as the head. The fact of being also known as a blind snake is due to his eyes, very small, to be covered by a skin, little visible to the observer. Currently, amphisbaenia is not classified as either a lizard or within the snake group, as it has been previously, but in a separate suborder, Amphisbaenia. Also called ibicara, ibijara, licranço, mother-of-saúva, king-of-ants and ubijara. Amphisbaena is the only truly digging reptile, that is, it digs its own tunnels, using its rather hard skull, in movements from one side to the other. Amphisbaena has subterranean habits and is carnivorous, feeding on small insects that penetrate its tunnels, and also, less frequently, hunting on the surface.
