The function of an intercept aircraft is to detain an enemy aircraft as it approaches the target. Therefore, they must be quick takeoff and able to develop high speeds at angles close to 90 degrees on the rise. Because of these characteristics, their autonomy is sacrificed and, therefore, the interception planes are generally short-range.
