Magnesita

Magnesite or magnesite is a magnesium carbonate mineral. Magnesium can be replaced with iron forming an isomorphic series with siderite. May contain small amounts of nickel, cobalt, calcium and manganese. Dolomite CO3 is practically impossible to distinguish from magnesite. Magnesite occurs in serpentinite veins or as a product of alteration of these or other magnesium-rich rocks in zones of regional or contact metamorphism. These magnesites are often cryptocrystalline and contain silica in the form of opal and chert.
