Marel

Marel

Marel is a variant of the old game, though with more options. He is from the family of games known as "Merels", from which also descends the game of "track" or "mill", which Nigel Pennick, in his "Games of the Gods" calls "Nine Men's Morris." In all, the purpose is the same, ie put three pieces online. In a board with horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines, players place one piece at a time. In some variants, the number of pieces is 9, as, of course, in the case of "Nine Men's Morris". In others, they are 3 or 5 pieces. After this phase, players can move their pieces one at a time to an intersection of lines. It wins who puts their pieces in line, be it horizontal, vertical or diagonal. Ancient game, practiced in the East with the name of "game of three ways". Its origin is certainly much older. The drawing of the board was found in prehistoric caves in Warscheueck, Austria and in a cave of Fontainebleu in France. A board was found in Egypt, dating from 1400 BCE, Sri Lanka and on the ship Viking Gokstad, from the year 900.
