Turdus merula

Turdus merula

Blackbird, commonly known only as Blackbird or Mula, is a bird belonging to the genus Turdus. It occurs naturally in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and East Asia, and was introduced in Australia and New Zealand in the second half of the 19th century. Depending on the latitude, you may be resident, migratory or partially migratory. It has numerous subspecies in its vast area of distribution, some of which are considered species separated by some authors. Blackbird is omnivorous, consuming a wide variety of insects, worms, berries and drupe. It has a strong sexual dimorphism; the adult male of the nominal subspecies T. m. merula is completely black, except for the beak and yellow orbital ring, and has a vast repertoire of vocalizations, while the adult female and juveniles are predominantly brown in color. This species nests in woods and gardens, building cup-shaped nests with herbs and mud in vines or shrubs, and can be found both in forests and in open country and urban areas.
