Pineal gland

Glândula pineal

The neural epiphysis, pineal or simply pineal gland is a small endocrine gland located near the center of the brain, between the two hemispheres, above the aqueduct of Sylvius and below the bordeaux of the corpus callosum, in the anterior and upper part of the upper collicules and in the part of the third ventricle. It is attached by several peduncles and all these peduncles will be inserted into the optic thalamus. Although the functions of this gland are much discussed, there seems to be no doubt as to the important role it plays in regulating the so-called circadian cycles, which are the vital cycles and in the control of sexual and reproductive activities.
