Tridacna is a genus of large and mighty mussels, sea bivalve mollusks of the subfamily Tridacninae, of giant mussels. They have heavy shells, and heavily colored mantle. They inhabit shallow waters of coral reefs in warm waters of the Indo-Pacific region. These mussels are popular in the marine aquarium, and in some places, such as the Philippines, members of the genus are bred for the marine aquarium trade.
