In meteorology, Virga, also known as "Invisible Rain" or "Ghost Rain", is a type of precipitation that falls from a cloud but evaporates before reaching the ground while it is still falling, in a phenomenon that happens mainly in periods / dry air locations. At high altitudes the precipitation falls mainly as ice crystals before melting and finally evaporating; this usually occurs due to compressional heat because the atmospheric pressure is higher near the ground. It is very common in deserts and temperate climates. In North America, it is generally seen in the Western United States and the Prairies of Canada. The virga can cause various climatic effects because the rain in the liquid state becomes gaseous and then begins to remove heat from the air due to the high heat of vaporization of the water. In some cases, these pockets of cooler air descend quickly, creating turbulence that can be extremely dangerous for aviation.

Em meteorologia, Virga, também conhecida por "Chuva Invisível" ou "Chuva Fantasma", é um tipo de precipitação que cai de uma nuvem mas evapora-se antes de atingir o solo enquanto está ainda a cair, num fenômeno que acontece principalmente em períodos/locais de ar seco. Em altitudes elevadas a precipitação cai principalmente como cristais de gelo antes de derreter-se e finalmente evaporar-se; isso ocorre geralmente devido ao calor compressional, porque a pressão atmosférica é maior perto do solo. É muito comum em desertos e em climas temperados. Na América do Norte, é geralmente visto na Região Oeste dos Estados Unidos e nas Pradarias do Canadá. A virga pode causar variados efeitos climáticos, porque a chuva no estado líquido torna-se gasosa e então passa a remover calor do ar devido ao alto calor de vaporização da água. Em alguns casos, estas bolsas de ar mais frio descem rapidamente, criando uma turbulência que pode ser extremamente perigosa para a aviação.
