Definition of dionysus in the Romanian dictionary

Dionysus, in Greek mythology, the god of wine and vine, called (in Romans) and Bacchus. He was also called Bromius, Liber, Lyaeus, etc. Dionysus was one of the most important divinities known in ancient times, and whose worship was widespread throughout the world. He was the son of Zeus with the death of Semele, the daughter of King Cadmus and Harmony. So he was part of the second generation of the Olympians. It was said that, as he urged Hera, Semele asked Zeus to show him in all his zealous strength and splendor. Zeus fulfills his prayer: he is portrayed as a cloud of fire. But unable to withstand the splendor of this sight, Semele flashes and gives birth before time. Zeus takes the child and shelters him in his own thigh where, at the appointed time, Dionysus is born alive and unhurt. (That is why it was said that Dionysus was the god "who was born twice"). In order to shelter her child from jealousy, Zeus entrusts him with King Athamas and his wife, Ino, to raise him. In their home Dionysus lives transvestite in women's clothes to be unrecognizable. Hera does give him a trace and, as revenge, takes the minds of Ino and Athamas. Then Zeus sends Dionysus away to Nysa, and takes care of the nymphs there to increase it (v. Hyades). When it became great, Dionysus began to wander the whole world: Aegyptus, Syria, Phrygia, Thracia, and finally, India, spreading his cult all the way. Those who stood against them severely punished them, either by taking their minds (like King Lycurgus, Pentheus, Agave, etc.) or metamorphosizing them in sharks (like, for example, the pirates who wanted to sell him as a slave on his way to Naxos). Finally, Dionysus descended to the Inferno to seek out his mother's shadow and redeem his life. Hades agreed to give her and Dionysus took Semele to herself in Olympus. He also participated in the struggle of the gods with the giants and was said to have killed Eurytus with a blow of tire. It is also known the episode of love between Ariadne and the god after it was abandoned by Theseus (v. And Ariadne). The cult of Dionysus was spread throughout the old world. The celebrations given to him (dionysia or bacchanalia) are attended by everyone, but especially women. Then the god was celebrated in songs and dances, often with an orgiastic character. Dionysus was imagined, accompanied by a line of bacchantes, silences, satire, etc. The mysteries of Dionysus were celebrated in Italy until the imperial age.
