Creație expresivă, cf. fleoarță, treanță, hoandră, cu aceleași sensuri. După DAR, ar fi o contaminare a lui handră cu sdreanță. Drăganu, Dacor., III, 708, pleacă de la săs. hânts „vedenie, arătare”; Candrea, de la rut. hanca „gloabă, mîrțoagă” cf. Scriban. Hanț, s. n. (cadavru; mîrțoagă; bucată; Trans., fîșie) trebuie să fie doar o var.Der. hănțui, vb. (a sfîrteca), pe care Cihac, II, 134, îl pune în legătură cu ceh. hantovati „a face pe măcelarul”; hănțălui, vb. (Bucov., a deranja, a importuna); hănțău, s. n. (masa celui care face căruțe); hănțușcă, s. f. (șmecheră, golancă); hoancă (var. hoantă, hoanghină, hoarcă), s. f. (babă); hoarță, s. f. (hîrb), cf. fleoarță; honțăni, vb. (a se agita). – Din rom. pare a proveni rut. hance (Miklosich, Wander., 16).
