ETYMOLOGY OF THE WORD TÚMBĂ

túmbă (-be), s. f. – Săritură peste cap rotire a corpului în aer. – Mr. tumbă, culutumba, megl. tumbă. Creație expresivă, care ar putea fi anterioară rom. (Pușcariu 1770; REW 8975; Tiktin), cf. it. tombolo, fr. tomber, prov., cat. tombar, ngr. τοῦμπα. Mr., megl. nu trebuie să se confunde cu mr. tumbă „mormînt”, din lat. tumba (REW 8977), cuvînt care s-a pierdut pierdut în rom. Bg. tumba trebuie să provină din rom. (Capidan, Raporturile, 213).
