Atom is the smallest building stone that carries the chemical and physical qualities of all the material in the known phase. The atom is a genus of atomic stars, meaning that it can not be divided in the Greek. The first person to invent the word of Atomus was Democritus, who lived in the 440s BC. It is a very small particle that is impossible to see visually, and it is just a scanning tunnel microscope etc. . In an atom, there is a negatively charged electron cloud surrounding the nucleus. The nucleus consists of positively charged protons and uncharged neutrons. When the number of protons in the atom is equal to the number of electrons, the atom is electrically uncharged. If the numbers of electrons and protons are not equal, this particle is called ion. The ions are highly unstable and interact with other ions and atoms in the environment to get rid of their high energy. An atom is classified according to the number of protons and neutrons it possesses: the number of protons in the atom defines the chemical element, and the number of neutrons also defines the isotope of this element. Each element has at least one isotope giving radioactive decay.
