Salta

Salta is the capital of the Salta province in the northwestern part of Argentina. It lies in the Lerma Valley, on the shores of one of the rivers that feed the Salado River. In 1582 the governor of Tucumán was founded by Hernando de Lerma in the name of San Felipe de Lerma. During the Argentine Independence War, Spanish forces were corrupted in Salta. Despite the damage caused by the earthquakes, most of the colonial structures survive today. The city's economy, which has been of great commercial importance since the colonial period, is based on agriculture, timber, livestock and mining. At the same time, the city has become a tourism center thanks to its nearby spas. Many excavations of Inca and other pre-Columbian indigenous cultures were unearthed during excavations in the area. The Catholic University in the city was founded in 1967.

Sömürge döneminden beri ticari açıdan büyük önem taşıyan kentin ekonomisi tarım, kerestecilik, besicilik ve madenciliğe dayanır. Kent aynı zamanda yakınlarındaki kaplıcalar sayesinde bir turizm merkezi durumuna gelmiştir. Yörede yapılan kazılarda İnka ve öteki Kolomb öncesi Yerli kültürlerine ait pek çok kalıntı ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Kentteki Katolik Üniversitesi 1967'de kurulmuştur.
