It is a kind of perennial, herbaceous rhubarb, 40-150 cm in length, which grows in the height of 1000-4000 m from the gentle or lush family of lush or white, white to yellowish white flowers in May-June. It is one of the 103 Rheum variants identified and the nominate is classified in the section. It spreads in the temperate and subtropical regions of Southwest Asia and is the only species of rhubarb that grows wild in Turkey. The flowers that are freely hybridizable with other species of the genus are hermaphrodite and pollinated by the wind. It is of medical plants and is frequently used in pharmacological researches. It is consumed freshly in the regions where young shoots carrying bunch-shaped flower state are grown. Although it is a delicious vegetable that is delicious and tasty in the taste of kiwi, it is also called "fruit" among the people in Turkey and it is compared with banana and kiwi and it is lanterned in the form of "banana of east" or "kiwi".

Işgın ya da Işkın, kuzukulağıgiller familyasından 1000 - 4000 m yüksekliklerde yetişen, mayıs-haziran aylarında sarımsı beyaz çiçek açan, 40-150 cm boyunda, çok yıllık, otsu bir ravent türü. Tanımlanmış 103 Rheum türünden biridir ve nominat seksiyonda sınıflandırılır. Güneybatı Asya'nın ılıman ve subtropikal bölgelerinde yayılım gösterir ve Türkiye'de yabani olarak yetişen tek ravent türüdür. Cinsin diğer türleriyle serbestçe melezlenebilen ışgının çiçekleri hermafrodittir ve tozlaşması rüzgâr tarafından yapılır. Tıbbi bitkilerden olup farmakolojik araştırmalarda çok sık kullanılır. Salkım biçimli çiçek durumunu taşıyan genç sürgünler yetiştiği yörelerde taze olarak tüketilir. Kivi tadında mayhoş lezzetli sevilen bir sebze olsa da Türkiye'de halk arasında «meyve» olarak da nitelendirilerek muz ve kivi ile kıyaslanıp «Doğu'nun muzu» ya da «kivisi» biçiminde lanse edilir.
