Algeria
Algeria (Arabic: الجزائر al-Jazā'ir; Berber: Dzayer / ⴷⵣⴰⵢⴻⵔ; French: Algérie), a country of northern Maghreb in Africa, whose official name is the Algerian Democratic People's Republic. Algeria's land area ranks the highest in Africa, the crown of the Mediterranean countries and the highest in the Arab countries, ranked 10th in the world. The land is on the verge of the Mediterranean, east of Libya, Tunisia, southeast and south, respectively, with the Niger, Mali and Mauritania border, west and Morocco. Algeria, the country name from the city name, the capital of Algiers, its Arabic meaning "archipelago", refers to the city before the Gulf of four islands, 1525 after the four islands and the mainland gradually integrated into one. Algeria's main political party is the National Liberation Front, the regime has been dominated by them. But many Algerians are not satisfied that they resist the centralization of the National Liberation Front. The Islamic Salvation Front won the first round of voting in December 1991, but was intervened by the military and postponed the second round of elections to prevent the emergence of a powerful government led by extremists.
