1931 Westminster Act
The Westminster Act is a bill passed by the British Parliament in 1931, which states that: ▪ The following colonies are the Dominions: ▪ Canada ▪ Newfoundland (after joining Canada in 1949) ▪ Australia ▪ New Zealand ▪ South Africa ▪ Irish Free State ▪ The British Parliament and the British government can no longer interfere with the internal affairs of the Dominion. ▪ The British royal family still retains the status of other municipality heads of state, subject to the "king of kings". But the law also stipulates that the sovereignty of the Dominion is still king. The Irish Free State was unilaterally converted to the Republic of Ireland in 1936 and unilaterally withdrew from the Great Britain Association in 1939. In 1949, the British Parliament passed the "1949 Ireland Act" (Ireland Act 1949), announced that Ireland is completely independent, but refused to return to Northern Ireland six counties. South Africa was converted into a republic in 1961 and withdrew from the Great Britain Association (rejoined in 1994). ...
