Estos organismos tienen un esqueleto interno secretado por mesoglea y pólipos con ocho tentáculos y ocho mesentarios. Al igual que con todos los Cnidarios, estos organismos tienen un ciclo de vida complejo incluyendo una fase móvil cuando se consideran plancton y posterior fase sésil.
