Appressorium
Un appressorium es una célula especializada típica de muchos patógenos fúngicos de las plantas que se utiliza para infectar las plantas huésped. Se trata de un órgano aplanado y "presionante" de hifas, desde el cual crece un diminuto gancho de infección y entra en el huésped, utilizando una presión de turgencia capaz de perforar incluso el Mylar. Después de la fijación de esporas y la germinación en la superficie del huésped, el tubo germinal emergente percibe señales físicas tales como dureza superficial e hidrofobicidad, así como señales químicas incluyendo monómeros de cera que desencadenan la formación de appressorium. La formación de Appressorium comienza cuando la punta del tubo germinal detiene el crecimiento polar, ganchos y empieza a hincharse. El contenido de la espora se moviliza entonces en el apéndice en desarrollo, se desarrolla un septo en el cuello del appressorium y el tubo germinal y la espora se desploman y mueren. A medida que el appressorium madura, se adhiere firmemente a la superficie de la planta y una capa densa de melanina se deposita en la pared del appressorium, excepto a través de un poro en la interfaz de la planta.
