Río Aruwimi
El río Aruwimi es un afluente del río Congo, situado al norte y al este del Congo. El Aruwimi comienza como el río Ituri, que surge cerca del lago Albert, en las sabanas al norte de la cuenca del río Kibale. Entonces corre generalmente al sur-suroeste hasta que es unido por el río de Shari que fluye por Bunia. El Ituri entonces da vuelta al oeste, a través del bosque de Ituri, convirtiéndose en el Aruwimi donde el río de Nepoko lo une, en la ciudad de Bomili. El río continúa hacia el oeste, uniéndose al Congo en Basoko. La longitud del Aruwimi-Ituri es de unos 1.030 kilómetros, con Ituri a unos 650 kilómetros y Aruwimi unos 380 kilómetros. El Aruwimi tiene aproximadamente 1.5 kilómetros de ancho donde se une al Congo. La cuenca del Ituri / Aruwimi es casi enteramente bosque denso, con apenas un puñado de aldeas a lo largo de su curso, y cruzado por las carreteras en cerca de cuatro lugares. El idioma Kango es hablado por varios miles de aldeanos al sur de Avakubi, y los tramos superiores del Ituri están habitados por los Mbuti. El Aruwimi fue explorado por Henry Morton Stanley durante su expedición de 1887 para "rescatar" a Emin Pasha.
