Basidio
Un basidio es una estructura microscópica productora de esporas que se encuentra en el himenóforo de los cuerpos fructíferos de los hongos basidiomicetos. La presencia de basidia es una de las principales características de la Basidiomycota. Un basidium suele tener cuatro esporas sexuales llamadas basidiosporas; Ocasionalmente el número puede ser dos o incluso ocho. En un basidio típico, cada basidiospore se lleva en la punta de una punta estrecha o un cuerno llamado un sterigma, y se descarga por la fuerza en la madurez. La palabra basidio significa literalmente poco pedestal, desde la forma en que el basidio apoya las esporas. Sin embargo, algunos biólogos sugieren que la estructura se asemeja más a un club. Un basidio inmaduro se conoce como basidiole.
