QUÉ SIGNIFICA BASILICA EN INGLÉS
Basílica
La palabra latina basílica, tiene tres aplicaciones distintas en el inglés moderno. La palabra fue utilizada originalmente para describir un edificio abierto, romano, de la corte pública, situado generalmente adyacente al foro de una ciudad romana. Por extensión se aplicó a los edificios cristianos de la misma forma y sigue siendo utilizado en un sentido arquitectónico para describir los edificios con una nave central y pasillos. Posteriormente, el término llegó a referirse específicamente a una iglesia grande e importante a la que el Papa otorgó derechos ceremoniales especiales. Las basílicas católicas son lugares de peregrinación católica, recibiendo decenas de millones de visitantes al año. En diciembre de 2009 la Basílica de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe estableció un nuevo récord con 6.1 millones de peregrinos durante los viernes y sábados para el aniversario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe.
