Blástula
La blástula (del griego βλαστός (blastos), que significa "germinar") es una esfera hueca de células, denominada blastómeros, que rodea una cavidad interna llena de líquido llamada blastocoele formada durante una etapa temprana del desarrollo embrionario en animales. El desarrollo embrionario comienza con un espermatozoide fertilizando un óvulo para convertirse en un cigoto que sufre muchas escisiones para convertirse en una bola de células llamada morula. Sólo cuando se forma el blastocelo, el embrión temprano se convierte en una blástula. La blástula precede a la formación de la gastrula en la que se forman las capas germinales del embrión. Una característica común de una blástula vertebrada es que consiste en una capa de blastómeros, conocida como el blastodermo, que rodea al blastocelo. En los mamíferos, la blástula se denomina blastocisto. El blastocisto contiene un embrión blasto (o masa celular interna) que eventualmente dará lugar a las estructuras definitivas del feto, y el trofoblasto, que pasa a formar los tejidos extraembrionarios.
