Ciudad del Cabo es la segunda ciudad más poblada de Sudáfrica, después de Johannesburgo, y la capital de la provincia y la ciudad de los primates de Cabo Occidental. Como sede del Parlamento Nacional, es también la capital legislativa del país. Forma parte del municipio metropolitano de Ciudad del Cabo. La ciudad es famosa por su puerto, por su entorno natural en el reino floral del Cabo, así como por lugares tan conocidos como Table Mountain y Cape Point. Ciudad del Cabo fue originalmente desarrollado por la Compañía Holandesa de las Indias Orientales como una estación de avituallamiento para buques holandeses que navegan hacia el este de África, la India y el Lejano Oriente. La llegada de Jan van Riebeeck el 6 de abril de 1652 estableció el primer asentamiento europeo permanente en Sudáfrica.
