Clorocruorina
La clorocruorina es una hemeproteína que se une al oxígeno presente en el plasma sanguíneo de muchos anélidos, particularmente ciertos poliquetos marinos. Su afinidad por el oxígeno es más débil que la de la mayoría de las hemoglobinas. Un compuesto dicromatico, chlorocruorin se observa para aparecer verde en disoluciones diluidas, aunque aparece rojo claro cuando se encuentra en soluciones concentradas. Su estructura es muy similar a la eritrocruorina y contiene muchas subunidades tipo mioglobina de 16-17 kDa dispuestas en un complejo gigante de más de cien subunidades con proteínas de interconexión, así como con un peso total superior a 3600 kDa. La única diferencia significativa entre clorocruorin y erythrocruorin es que chlorocruorin lleva una estructura anormal del grupo del heme. Esta enorme macromolécula se encuentra típicamente libre flotando en el plasma, y no se encuentra dentro de los glóbulos rojos.
