Metro común
El metro común o la medida común - abreviado como C. M. o CM - es un metro poético que consiste en cuatro líneas que alternan entre el tetrámetro yámbico y el trimeter yámbico, rimando en el patrón a-b-a-b. El medidor se indica mediante el recuento de sílabas de cada línea, es decir, 8.6.8.6 o 86.86, dependiendo del estilo, o por su abreviatura abreviada "CM". Se ha utilizado históricamente para las baladas tales como "Tam Lin", y los himnos tales como "gracia asombrosa" y el villancico "O pequeña ciudad de Bethlehem". El resultado de esta coincidencia es que las letras de una canción se pueden cantar a la melodía de otra; Por ejemplo, "Advance Australia Fair", el himno nacional de Australia, se puede cantar con la melodía de "House of the Rising Sun".
