En la teoría de probabilidades, una probabilidad condicional mide la probabilidad de un evento dado que (por asunción, presunción, aserción o evidencia) se ha producido otro evento. Si los eventos son A y B, respectivamente, se dice que es "la probabilidad de A dada B". Es comúnmente denotado por P (A B), o a veces PB (A). En el caso de que tanto "A" como "B" sean variables categóricas, la tabla de probabilidad condicional se utiliza típicamente para representar la probabilidad condicional. El concepto de probabilidad condicional es uno de los conceptos más fundamentales y uno de los más importantes en la teoría de la probabilidad. Pero las probabilidades condicionales pueden ser bastante resbalosas y requieren una interpretación cuidadosa. En la inferencia estadística, la probabilidad condicional es una actualización de la probabilidad de un evento basado en nueva información. La incorporación de la nueva información se puede hacer de la siguiente manera ▪ Comenzamos con una medida de probabilidad en un espacio de muestra, digamos (X, P). ▪ Que el evento de interés sea A.
