Cybersquatting
Cybersquatting, según la ley federal de los Estados Unidos conocida como la Ley Anticybersquatting de Protección al Consumidor, es el registro, el tráfico o el uso de un nombre de dominio con mala fe la intención de beneficiarse de la buena voluntad de una marca perteneciente a otra persona. El cybersquatter entonces ofrece vender el dominio a la persona o compañía que posee una marca registrada contenida en el nombre a un precio inflado. El término se deriva de "agacharse", que es el acto de ocupar un espacio o un edificio abandonado o desocupado que el ocupante no posee, alquila, o de otra manera tiene permiso para usar. Cybersquatting, sin embargo, es un poco diferente en que los nombres de dominio que están siendo "squatted" se están pagando a través del proceso de registro por los cybersquatters. Los Cybersquatters suelen preguntar por precios mucho mayores que aquellos en los que lo compraron. Algunos cybersquatters presentaron comentarios despectivos sobre la persona o empresa que el dominio está destinado a representar en un esfuerzo para alentar al sujeto a comprar el dominio de ellos. Otros post enlaces pagados a través de redes de publicidad para el sitio real que el usuario probablemente quería, por lo tanto monetizar su ocupación.
