Impuestos de sucesión
Un impuesto de herencia o de sucesión es un gravamen pagado por una persona que hereda dinero o propiedad o un impuesto sobre la herencia de una persona que ha muerto. En el derecho tributario internacional existe una distinción entre un impuesto sobre sucesiones y un impuesto sobre sucesiones: un impuesto inmobiliario se calcula sobre los bienes del fallecido, mientras que un impuesto sobre la herencia se evalúa sobre los legados recibidos por los beneficiarios de la sucesión. Sin embargo, esta distinción no siempre se respeta en el lenguaje de las leyes fiscales. Por ejemplo, el "impuesto sobre sucesiones" en el Reino Unido es un impuesto sobre los bienes del fallecido y, por tanto, en sentido estricto, es un impuesto inmobiliario. Por razones históricas, el término "impuesto sobre la muerte" se utiliza todavía coloquialmente en el Reino Unido y en algunos países de la Commonwealth para referirse al impuesto sobre bienes.
