En la mineralogía, el diamante es un alotropo metaestable de carbono, donde los átomos de carbono están dispuestos en una variación de la estructura cristalina cúbica centrada en la cara llamada red de diamante. Debido a su red extremadamente rígida, puede estar contaminada por muy pocos tipos de impurezas, tales como boro y nitrógeno.
