El trastorno de identidad disociativo, o trastorno de personalidad múltiple, es un trastorno mental en el espectro disociativo caracterizado por al menos dos identidades distintas y relativamente duraderas o estados de personalidad disociados que controlan alternativamente el comportamiento de una persona y se acompañan de deterioro de la memoria para obtener información importante No explicado por el olvido ordinario. Estos síntomas no se explican por el abuso de sustancias, las convulsiones, otras condiciones médicas, ni por el juego imaginativo en los niños. [2] El diagnóstico es a menudo difícil ya que hay una comorbilidad considerable con otros trastornos mentales. Malingering debe ser considerado si hay posible ganancia financiera o forense, así como trastorno facticio si el comportamiento de búsqueda de ayuda es prominente.
