Emile Durkheim
David Émile Durkheim fue sociólogo francés, psicólogo social y filósofo. Estableció formalmente la disciplina académica y, con Karl Marx y Max Weber, es comúnmente citado como el principal arquitecto de la ciencia social moderna y padre de la sociología. Gran parte del trabajo de Durkheim se refería a cómo las sociedades podían mantener su integridad y coherencia en la modernidad; Una época en la que ya no se asumen los vínculos sociales y religiosos tradicionales, y en la que han surgido nuevas instituciones sociales. Su primer gran trabajo sociológico fue La División del Trabajo en la Sociedad. En 1895 publicó Las reglas del método sociológico y estableció el primer departamento europeo de sociología, convirtiéndose en el primer profesor de sociología de Francia. En 1898, fundó la revista L'Année Sociologique. La monografía seminal de Durkheim, Suicide, un estudio de las tasas de suicidio en las poblaciones católica y protestante, fue pionera en la investigación social moderna y sirvió para distinguir la ciencia social de la psicología y la filosofía política.
