Exógena se refiere a una acción u objeto procedente de fuera de un sistema. Es lo opuesto a lo endógeno, algo generado desde dentro del sistema. ▪ En un modelo económico, un cambio exógeno es aquel que proviene de fuera del modelo y es inexplicable por el modelo. Por ejemplo, en el modelo simple de oferta y demanda, un cambio en los gustos o preferencias de los consumidores es inexplicable por el modelo y también conduce a cambios endógenos en la demanda que conducen a cambios en el precio de equilibrio. Del mismo modo, un cambio en los ingresos del consumidor se da fuera del modelo. Dicho de otro modo, un cambio exógeno implica una alteración de una variable que es autónoma, es decir, no afectada por el funcionamiento del modelo. ▪ En regresión lineal, significa que la variable es independiente de todos los demás valores de respuesta. ▪ En biología, "exógeno" se refiere a una acción u objeto procedente del exterior de un sistema. Por ejemplo, un agente de contraste exógeno en la formación de imágenes médicas se refiere a un líquido inyectado al paciente por vía intravenosa que mejora la visibilidad de una patología, tal como un tumor.
