QUÉ SIGNIFICA FOCAL PLANE EN INGLÉS
Punto cardinal (óptica)
En la óptica gaussiana, los puntos cardinales consisten en tres pares de puntos situados en el eje óptico de un sistema óptico focal, simétrico en rotación. Estos son los puntos focales, los puntos principales y los puntos nodales. Para sistemas ideales, las propiedades básicas de formación de imágenes, tales como el tamaño de la imagen, la ubicación y la orientación, están completamente determinadas por las ubicaciones de los puntos cardinales; De hecho sólo son necesarios cuatro puntos: los puntos focales y los puntos principales o nodales. El único sistema ideal que se ha logrado en la práctica es el espejo plano, sin embargo los puntos cardinales son ampliamente utilizados para aproximar el comportamiento de los sistemas ópticos reales. Los puntos cardinales proporcionan una manera de simplificar analíticamente un sistema con muchos componentes, permitiendo que las características de formación de imágenes del sistema se determinen aproximadamente con cálculos simples.
