Genipa americana
Genipa americana es una especie de Genipa, nativa del norte de América del Sur, del Caribe y del sur de México, que crece en selvas tropicales. Se llama comúnmente Genipapo o Huito; El nombre alterno Jagua puede referirse también a otras especies de Genipa. Para el Inca, era conocido como hawa o wituq. En las islas británicas de las Indias Occidentales, se llamaba la caja de la mermelada. Es un pequeño árbol que crece a 15 m de altura. Las hojas son opuestas, lanceoladas a oblongas, de 20-35 cm de largo y 10-19 cm de ancho, de color verde oscuro brillante, con un margen entero. Las flores son blancas, amarillas o rojas, con una corola de cinco lobulos de 5-6 cm de diámetro. La fruta es una baya comestible de piel gruesa de 5-8 cm de diámetro.
