Gnosticismo
El gnosticismo describe una colección de religiones antiguas que enseñaron que la gente debe evitar el mundo material creado por el demiurgo y abrazar el mundo espiritual. Las ideas gnósticas influyeron en muchas religiones antiguas que enseñan que la gnosis puede ser alcanzada practicando la filantropía hasta el punto de la pobreza personal, la abstinencia sexual y la búsqueda diligente de la sabiduría ayudando a otros. Sin embargo, las prácticas variaban entre los que eran gnósticos. En el gnosticismo, el mundo del demiurgo está representado por el mundo inferior, que está asociado con la materia, la carne, el tiempo y más particularmente un mundo imperfecto y efímero. El mundo de Dios está representado por el mundo superior, y está asociado con el alma y la perfección. El mundo de Dios es eterno y no parte de lo físico. Es impalpable, y el tiempo no existe allí. Para ascender a Dios, el gnóstico debe alcanzar el conocimiento, que mezcla filosofía, metafísica, curiosidad, cultura, conocimiento y los secretos de la historia y del universo. El gnosticismo se define principalmente en un contexto cristiano.
