Irreparable
Irretrievable es una de las maduras novelas alemanas de Theodor Fontane. Al igual que con algunas otras novelas de Fontane, se cree que su heroína se basa aproximadamente en una persona real cuyo fallecimiento Fontane oyó hablar, y trata delicadamente con temas casi tabú como el adulterio y el suicidio. La novela ha sido traducida dos veces al inglés. El primero de Douglas Parmée en 1963 como Beyond Recall, fue reeditado en 2011 por New York Review of Books como irrecuperable. En 2010 una nueva traducción inglesa, No Way Back, fue publicada por Angel Classics. También hay una película alemana hecha para la TV. En cuanto a la traducción de esta novela embrujada en Inglés, incluso la decisión de una traducción para el título presenta muchas opciones en Inglés. Los sutiles juegos de palabras y los motivos lingüísticos que se suman al poder de su texto alemán son difíciles de traducir al inglés.
