From Old French, from Medieval Latin Jacōbīnus, from Late Latin Jacōbus James; applied to the Dominicans, from the proximity of the church of St Jacques (St James) to their first convent in Paris; the political club originally met in the convent in 1789.

Jacobino
La Sociedad de los Amigos de la Constitución, comúnmente conocida como el Club Jacobino fue el club político más famoso e influyente en el desarrollo de la Revolución Francesa. Había al menos 7.000 capítulos en toda Francia, con una membresía estimada en medio millón o más. En su apogeo en 1793-94, los líderes del club fueron el grupo más radical e igualitario de la Revolución. Dirigidos por Maximilien de Robespierre, controlaron el gobierno desde junio de 1793 hasta julio de 1794, aprobaron una gran cantidad de legislación radical, y cazaron y ejecutaron a sus oponentes en el Reino del Terror.
